⚔️ WEEK 2 CHALLENGE: THE MOVEMENT MIX
October 12–18 Last week, we tackled 300 pull-ups. This week, we’re switching things up. Your challenge: Accumulate intentional movement throughout the week AND try at least 1 activity you don’t normally do. 🎯 PICK YOUR LEVEL 🟢 BASE: 150 minutes ⚪ STANDARD: 300 minutes 🔴 BEAST: 450 minutes 💪 WHAT COUNTS? Walking, running, lifting, cycling, swimming, hiking, yoga, Pilates, mobility, sports, or any other intentional movement. YES, your regular workouts count! 🔀 HERE’S THE TWIST Try at least 1 activity outside your normal routine. 🏋️ Always lift? Try yoga or swimming. 🏃 Always run? Try strength training. 🚶 Always walk? Try cycling or Pilates. 💪 Do everything? Pick something you’ve neglected. Even 10 minutes of something different counts. 📋 THE RULES ✅ Pick your level. Adjust if needed. ✅ Accumulate minutes over 7 days. No daily minimum. ✅ Mix activities. Your normal workouts count. ✅ Try at least 1 activity you don’t normally do. ✅ Modify as needed. Walking, seated exercise, and low-impact options all count. ✅ Recovery matters. Don’t push through pain or add unnecessary training. ✅ Track your minutes honestly. A missed target doesn’t erase your effort. No equipment or special app required. Just track your minutes on your phone, watch, or a piece of paper. Report your progress in your regular Friday check-in and share your final total here after the weekend. The challenge is optional and doesn’t affect Active 300 status. 👇 YOUR TURN! Drop 2 things in the comments: 1️⃣ BASE, STANDARD, or BEAST? 2️⃣ What’s the NEW activity you’re trying? Get moving. Try something different. Have some fun with it. LET’S GO, PROJECT 300! ⚔️💪

🔴 Beast: I also feel a little like it’s cheating because I’m preparing for the NYC Marathon in 20 days and Sunday will be my last long, long run. New activity: Playing basketball with my students during recess. 🏀
Why??? Long post warning
@Daniel Yearick asked in a different post about remembering your why. For me it’s more motivation than anything else in this world. My why is my son Mateo. A bit about my journey. I had spinal fusion at 21 and fought cancer at 25. Each time I had to rebuild myself. I was always moving, always athletic but also very stubborn and never gave up. Well years later I was playing hockey and ended up destroying my wrist and needed reconstructive surgery. I realized that my last game had been played. I loved hockey but after receiving a concussion and now this it wasn’t worth it to play a game at 10-11PM with a bunch of guys that think it’s game 7. This was a turning point in my life. I loved hockey and I became depressed any time I saw my goaltending gear in the basement. I ended up eating anything I wanted, stopping my workouts and becoming very unhealthy. Eventually I snapped out of it and looked towards general fitness. I loved it so much that I wanted to learn anything I could. I decided to check out NASM and become a trainer. I did online programming for a while and worked at F45 until a few life changing things happened. 1 - my son came into my life through foster care(chemo didn’t allow me to have my own children anymore) and 2 - COVID shut the world down. It was at this time that I started to build my home gym and turn my attention to powerlifting even though I felt like the old guy and received my powerlifting certification through ISSA. I absolutely loved the feel of competing again. I was stronger than I ever was but I was also in a ton of pain. When my son started TKD I loved watching him. I took class when I was a kid and honestly regretted stopping for years. Well one day my son asked me if I wanted to take class too. I said absolutely. I was old, stiff, slow, embarrassed but I jumped on the mat. A few months later project 300 came at the most perfect time. I stopped powerlifting about 5-6 mo prior and honestly didn’t know what direction I was going to go in. Project 300 made me think about my goals. I picked a few. Be pain free, be more mobile, lose some bulk and tone up. Why? Longevity for my son. Being able to chase this little dude around. He has autism and adhd so it can sometimes be exhausting.

Thank you for sharing your journey. You are the definition of a phoenix - coming back to life after every challenge and obstacle.
Friday Check In
I signed up on Wednesday, so I’m still reading through everything, but I joined because I want the accountability and that’s what the Friday Check In is. I competed in a DEKA Mile and DEKA Strong on Saturday, so I used Sunday to recover. I planned for six workout days. Thursday morning (workout day 4), I woke up to both with my watch and Oura ring telling me I had biometric stress signals. I chose to listen to my body and changed gears. I went back to sleep for a little longer, then did a light strength workout in the evening to make up for the missed morning session. One more workout tomorrow (long run) will make six days. 50/300 pull-ups since Wednesday.
