My Quiet Time today had me reflecting on this question: When was the last time People Pleasing blocked Courage? And Holy Spirit brought an old hurt back to my attention. There was a time when I wanted something deeply from someone I loved. I made choices I believed were the right choices, while quietly hoping those choices would produce the response I wanted in return. As I sat with that memory today, I could finally put words around the belief underneath it that had stayed with me from way back when: “If I do the right things, I will be loved and that love will be expressed through affection.” Oof. Doing the right thing wasn’t the problem. Loving someone wasn’t the problem. Wanting affection wasn’t the problem. But somewhere along the way, I had connected doing the right things with receiving the love I wanted in return. And that meant someone else’s response had become part of the equation. Today’s Quiet Time gave me a chance to bring that old belief back to Holy Spirit and ask: “What truth do I need to believe and receive in order to experience Courage?” This is what came to me: I am loved, honored and cherished by my God. I have all that I need to be blessed and a blessing to others. That’s what I’m sitting with today. For me, courage doesn’t have to mean becoming harder or caring less about the people I love. It can look like allowing my choices to come from knowing I am loved instead of making the right choices in hopes that someone else’s response will prove that I am. I get so busy that I am not actively posting here in The Directory! My traffic turns to shit. Because this place WORKS! Thank you Heather for giving us a wonderful place to network and hang together with a lot of laughing. I love you gf! I am so grateful to call my friend.

So I'm standing in the chicken coop yesterday, half-listening to my daughter complain about her brother... you know how it goes, kinda sounds like Charlie Brown teacher, wah wah wah wah wah... and I glance out the coop door over her shoulder. And there it is. A plant hook. On the corner of my house. We've lived here since 2018. Eight years. I've walked past that corner more times than I can count just to get to those chickens, and I am just now seeing this hook for the first time. I know it's not new... it's rusty. Nobody installed it last week. It's just been hanging out there this whole time! So naturally my brain stops processing my kid's very valid sibling grievance and spirals into: what else have I not noticed? First with the house but then, SQUIRL, what in my business? And I can't exactly ask you what you're not noticing in yours, because you don't know what you don't know, until you know, you know?! But funny, it's been happening all week long. Noticing things I've not noticed, like with my website rebuild. I thought it was a quick main page update but I kept tripping over stuff that's been sitting there for who knows how long... old branding, outdated language, entire sections that made sense five pivots ago and now just don't. None of it was broken but it definitely went unnoticed. Same as the corner of the house I walk past every day. So here's my idea... go look, on purpose, at your website, your offer, your community, your posts, your classrooms, your emails, your campaigns... all of it. Notice it all because you might have something that needs an update or a resource that is available to you right now that you're not using. A tool. An asset. A darn hook!
