What are you most proud of?
What are some of your performance goals that you reached, and which are you proud of? Share them with the group.

In my 33 years as a professional VENTertainer, I've reached so many goals, some of which I never even thought of but they just happened while performing. When you're doing live shows, you never know what will happen and even if you do the same routine over and over again like Senor Wences, the audience changes each time which gives that particular performance a whole new show.

What a week!!!!
This past week has been extremely busy for me. On Saturday, July 4th, Sue Johnson, VENTertainer and head of Ventriloquist Network met up with me and my friend, Flora, up iin Benson for their 250th Birthday for the USA. What I didn't know was that the float in front of me had a gigantic bubble machine which made my car look like it was in the Lawrence Welk Show. Our puppets were greeted extremely well. Then came Monday and I started working on the VBS telling Bible stories with my characters. My Sheepdog, Sscamp, was the mascot for this year's VBS.

Distant Voice and Improving my Craft
How does one do the distant voice properly? I want to do more with ventriloquism, but I feel I’m not doing enough. Don’t get me wrong! I have good material I’ve done, with great characters as well. I just want to evolve my act to keep it current.

The distant voice is one of the more difficult things to do but if mastered correctly, it's definitely a game changer. Because of this quite a few have a hidden speaker in the rear of the building where when they get to the distant voice, they turn the speaker on. Although this is a rip off, it still does in most cases work for those trying to do the distant voice. I usually use it with a puppet when I'm in an elevator and someone passes gas. What I do to that person while not moving my lips is priceless.

When I went to the audition for AGT, I had to go pass security and the officer wanted to know what I had in each suitcase. I told him two bodies which got him so shook up, he called the rest of the officers over and then one suitcase talked. These officers insisted on me opening the suitcases right there. They were relieved it was just two of my characters and not human beings.

I love it when after a show, someone comes up to me and says, "You know you sing lousy but Fred sings beautiful!" I don't comment because I'd be telling the person they're an idiot.
