Welcome to Instructional Design Insiders!
This is a community of practice for Instructional Designers. Whether you're new to the instructional design, or you've been practicing in the field for longer than you'd like to disclose, I hope you'll find something useful here. As a community of practice, I invite you to come here to ask questions, share your knowledge, ask for a brainstorm, bring new tools and frameworks to light. This is your space. I'll be sharing some of my own tools and helping you work through existing tools and navigating the new world of AI. The first course in the Classroom highlights my AI Partner Framework - a tool to help you determine when you should leverage AI for a task, whether it's one you should take on yourself, or if it a collaborative effort. Just click the Classroom tab from the home screen to access the material. Resources: The ID Toolbox (by Curt Zilbersher)
I found these tools via a LinkedIn post. Curt Zilbersher has led an Instructional Design group (NextGen AI Learning) on LinkedIn since 2008. These are examples of tools that can be built using AI to help keep our work consistent and efficient. My favorite so far is the Development Time and Cost Estimator. Who hasn't had a client who thought that we can just "slap it together" with a bunch of PowerPoint slides - or even better, that it takes as long to develop complex eLearning scenarios as is does to build a PPT deck? There are some caption tools as well, so if you use those a lot, be sure to take a look. Then, come back here and share your thoughts - were any of these tools useful? You've joined a community built for instructional designers who want the real inside track: the tools, frameworks, and methods shaping this field, not just whatever AI take is loudest this week (although we'll talk about that, too). The 20-Minute Arc is now available in the classroom!
I'm really excited to share this one because it leverages interesting technology. The framework is mine. I used Claude Design to develop the course. I used ChatGPT for the images. I published to HTML and dropped it into a code block in Articulate Rise. I used Rise button blocks to link to feedback and the Skool community. The feedback links back to a poll here in Skool. And don't get me wrong - this wasn't "easy." It's taken me all week to polish to course and get it right. This isn't supposed to replace my expertise in design or my accountability for accuracy and quality. But I got exactly what I wanted through experimentation and iteration, and now I will be able to replicate the process for additional arcs. I'd love your feedback - what do you think? Is this something you'd be interested in doing as well?
