James Maertz is a sophomore who's earned a starting spot on the varsity team for Appleton East High School. The team has struggled in recent years and now has a new head coach and thanks to James' leg, a win in the books against a good rival in Green Bay Preble HS. 2 seconds left on the clock, 14-14 and James has a 34 yard kick for the win. Take closer look at what happens... East called a time out to stop the clock and put James in for the kick. Of course, the other team called another time out to ice James. His Coach comes out to talk to James (a little encouragement is always nice) and James takes his time to make sure everything is right. Until the ref moves the ball back a yard. His holder picks up his tee and moves it back. Good for James in resetting his own tee and retracing his steps and alignment. Remember, you have 25 seconds from when the ref blows his whistle to get the kick off. TAKE YOUR TIME. TAKE A BREATH. EXHALE. (Loosen your butt muscles 😉, seriously) NOD TO YOUR HOLDER. Starting to get a number of video clips of campers who have made big kicks and punts already this season. We love seeing the results of your hard work this summer! "This is a clip of Keagan Holden (Sr. from Hudson HS) who was a camper of yours this summer!! He nailed a 45-yard FG this past Thursday against Eau Claire North. In the first 2 games, he has gone 13 for 13 in PAT. 3 for 3 in FG (with this 45-yarder). Some touchbacks and an awesome td stopping tackle on a kick return. Also had an awesome punt that went out at the 1 yard line the week before. And has been named player of the game by 2 different streams (which is rare for kickers as you know 😂). @Seth Adams nice to see Seth being written up at the college he transferred to this past winter (from UW-Whitewater to U of Southern Illinois). Seth won both the KO and FG competitions two years ago at my camp and showed great promise then.
