Do any of you have short term rentals? How are they doing right now? I am in the process of converting a second home on our property in to short term accommodation. Family and friends will get priority but we may also rent it short term.

As we are restructuring our homestead I have been looking at multiple different investment properties to fund the life that we have been looking for. I have looked at 1 storage unit complex but it is 3 hours away. I have also been looking at residential properties is the county next to us that has very favorable zoning. In the research that I have been doing I have found the biggest gap in housing right now is affordable housing. I have been brainstorming on what that could look like in nontraditional ways. 2 things stand out to me right now; SRO's (single room occupancy) and year round occupancy camper parks. Do any of you currently have rentals? I would be interested inn hearing your thoughts?

We are always working to cut labor and time in homesteading chores. This video shows 3 of our best time savers for vegetable processing for blanching and freezing. The 44 Quart stock pot with strainer on a propane burner makes processing large batches possible. I think we had about 100 pounds of cabbage we got in the freezer in just a few hours.

After 10 years of homesteading, we wish we had started differently. The biggest mistake that we made was thinking that we could generate real income from unscalable, labor-intensive homestead products. This year, we are making a real change. I am going back to the things that I know generate real income while putting some things on the homestead in "idle mode." Finances are the last key to completing our homestead goals.
