A Cochonnet Custom
Something I've noticed in pétanque tournaments in Paris is that the cochonnet is often automatically given to a team because they have a female player, rather than tossing a coin. I understand that it’s meant to be polite or a form of chivalry. But I've also heard people argue that it’s a form of positive discrimination that treats female players differently. Is it a nice bit of traditional politeness, or should all players be treated equally regardless of who they are? 🤔
