Episode 1 — The Hidden Lessons in Our Language - 29th August 2023 What are we teaching through the words we use every day? Our words do more than correct, comfort or guide. This opening episode explores the invisible beliefs about emotions, behaviour, responsibility and identity that can be carried through everyday classroom language. Episode 2 — He Made Me Angry Helping Students Move from Blame to Responsibility Explore how everyday language can quietly teach students to locate their emotional experience outside themselves. We look at how to acknowledge feelings and address behaviour while still supporting agency and responsibility. Episode 3 — You Should Know This by Now What Are We Teaching About Struggle, Learning and Identity? When a student struggles with something we believe they should already understand, our response can turn difficulty into shame. This episode explores how to preserve dignity, curiosity and willingness to keep learning. Episode 4 — Why Are You Always Causing Problems? Correcting Behaviour Without Defining the Child Repeated behaviour can easily become attached to a child’s identity. We explore how to set clear limits and hold students accountable without teaching them that their mistakes are who they are. Episode 5 — I Need This Class to Behave What Happens When Our Wellbeing Depends on Control? What are students learning when the teacher’s sense of success depends upon their compliance? This episode explores the shift from controlling outcomes to carrying our responsibility for guidance, limits and presence. Episode 6 — You Got the Highest Mark What Are We Teaching About Success, Comparison and Worth? Praise can communicate much more than encouragement. We explore what students may learn when achievement and comparison receive the greatest attention, and how we can recognise effort, integrity and sincere striving without attaching worth to results.
