Can You Learn From a Philosophy You Disagree With?
Today I want to do something a little different. A debate. Not an argument. Not trying to prove somebody wrong. A real discussion where we can challenge each other's thinking, hear opposing views, and maybe walk away seeing something differently than we did before. That's actually very much in the spirit of the ancient philosophers. I've been reading Seneca's Letters from a Stoic, and one thing I've found interesting is how often Seneca references Epicurus. Stoicism and Epicureanism weren't the same philosophy. They disagreed on some pretty fundamental things. Yet Seneca was still willing to read Epicurus, quote him, and take wisdom from him when he believed there was something worth learning. I think there's a lesson in that alone. So here's today's debate: Do you think we should actively expose ourselves to ideas and philosophies we disagree with, or does doing that risk weakening our own principles and convictions? My view is that if your beliefs are strong, they should be able to withstand being challenged. And if somebody on the other side has a better argument, I'd rather understand it than ignore it. But that's what I want to hear from you guys. Pick a side. Make your case. Then challenge someone else's position respectfully. The goal isn't to win. The goal is to leave the conversation thinking better than when we entered it.

New: Foundations of Stoicism
Over the last little while, I've been thinking about the direction of our community. It occurred to me that many of us are focused on becoming stronger, more disciplined men, but some of us may never have had the opportunity to learn the actual foundations of Stoicism. Understanding where these ideas came from and why they've stood the test of time gives much more meaning to everything we do here. Because of that, I've put together a new Foundations of Stoicism course inside the Classroom. Whether you're brand new to The Stoic Forge or you've been here since the beginning, I'd encourage everyone to work through it. It'll give you a solid understanding of the philosophy that this entire brotherhood is built upon. One quick note: As you complete each lesson, you'll see a checkbox in the upper-right corner of the lesson. Be sure to click it once you've finished. That helps us keep track of everyone's progress as members move through the Forge, from the Foundations course and eventually through Level 1 all the way to Level 6. It also helps us continue improving the experience for everyone. I'm looking forward to hearing what lessons resonate with you the most. 👀 And if you've got a keen eye, you might notice a few other things sitting in the Classroom. They're not quite ready yet... but more tools, training, and resources are on the way to help you build greater discipline, strength, and character. Your Stoic Brother Cody

🔥 WELCOME TO THE STOIC FORGE 🔥
What Are You Tolerating?
There’s usually something in our lives we know needs to change. Not some massive life overhaul. Something small we’ve allowed to stick around because dealing with it is uncomfortable. Maybe it’s: - A habit you keep making excuses for. - A conversation you’ve been avoiding. - A boundary you haven’t enforced. - Something you keep saying you’ll start “next week.” - An environment that makes it harder to be disciplined. The dangerous part is that what you tolerate eventually becomes normal. And once it becomes normal, you stop questioning it. So instead of another lesson today, I want to turn this one back on the Brotherhood: What’s ONE thing you’ve been tolerating that you know needs to change? And more importantly… What are you going to do about it? Drop yours below. I’ll add mine in the comments too.

I’m happy I found stoicism
25 years since 9/11. I still can’t believe it. Some days it feels like yesterday. Some days it feels like a lifetime ago. I lost my brother that day. In the Towers. I went through hell for a while. But I found my stoic warrior strength. Because of him, I’m now an older, wiser, stronger man. This is a younger me holding his turnout. I carry him with me. Never forget.
