Day 7 challenge
This week has flown by! But I’m so thankfully for this challenge. The way this Walkies community - being so kind helpful and supportive of Rosie I’m forever thankful
This week I’m so thankful for the biggest win. I’m most proud of -I was feeling low and had a busy day at work so was loosing my voice. I took Rosie out for a walk an on one of our regular walks we have a quite paddock that I use to let Rosie have a run an have some time training recall without lead. Rosie must of vibed on me that day an as I let her off I remembered my voice an thought oh noooo how will I recall her
I sat on a concrete storm water drain that’s raised and when I seen Rosie check in from across the paddock I signal with my body language and what little voice I had to return and my mind was blown as she came bolting back to me ❤️
I use day 7 to reflect. This week with the support of the trainers I have realised that at times I try and go from step 1 to step 5 and miss the steps between causing confusion for Rosie. Now I have realised this and corrected myself (still a work in progress) we are having much more engagement
We have strengthened Rosie ability to stay with some distance duration and distraction (with my silly antics🤣)
We have started crating during the day to help build an off switch so Rosie is less like on meth ( still got lots of work to do here 🙈😂🤭)
Iv since learnt Rosie does want to work and does want to preform for us but she is too “on” and needs to chill abit to allow her brain to process where before I thought she was bored and needed more enrichment and walks
Best of all Rosie and have built a stronger connection. Prior Rosie didn’t return to me of check in when feeling unsure. During a play with my friends labs Rosie became unsure and dropped her tail she straight away looked up to find me not only check in but came to me put herself in safety position between my legs this is when I advocated for her and distracted the other dog with a toy(Frisbee) off that dog went. Gave Rosie some calming pats and then did some one on one play and couple of training motions to just calm her brain out her back to “free” an just with me until she was ready an she return to play. Rosie didn’t start as a snuggly pup it’s something we have had to build with her via trust and she doesn’t give that away easy haha but as you see if I lay down her new fav thing to do is put her head on mine 🤭🥰 and snuggle in
Great challenge Walkies!
Edit to add next week we are going to try place stay in the front yard (we are on a main road so lots of cars and foot traffic so will be lots of distractions while still being in safety of home
