@Lawrence Neal I love blueberry muffins. Not sure about the stale fridge version though. I used to steal my mums flying saucers. Nom Nom... #britishreference
Whats your go to when training yourself or your clients. Do you focus on rep Cadence say a 5-5 or 10-10 or is it solely a focus on set duration example 60s set 90s set 120s set. Are there trainers that just focus on set duration and if you get 1 or 2 extra reps next time you add more weight? I normally focus on both cadence and set duration for myself and my clients. Typically I use a 5-5 Cadence with either 60 second set or 90 seconds. This gives us 6rp and 9rp sets. Interested in what others maybe using.
I'm genuinely a bit perplexed by your question Gilbert. Getting clients to target a certain number of reps or a certain TUL and then increasing the load when they reach it isn't HIT for me. My approach would be to encourage trainees to perform as many perfect form reps as possible to get maximum inroad and then stopping a set before form is lost. This is probably more effective than driving towards MMF. In general most people are uncomfortable achieving MMF, and it is probably overkill anyway. A generalised rep or TUL target is very difficult to know because everyone has a fairly unique rep / TUL range. Knowing what that is for each trainee comes from testing them using either the Darden protocol or the Brzycki protocol and also from a lot of the trainers experience. I'm sure many others here will have their own thoughts.
@Gilbert Gurney Hi Gilbert, Workout duration would be based on the number of exercises. From experience I know that a workout of 8 exercises should take around 20 minutes for an experienced trainee. Longer than that there's too much rest / chat occurring OR the weight selection is too light and each set consists of too many reps. Either of those circumstances would allow me to start to fine tune the workout.
