I Understand the Allure (a case against fakes)
I'm sure a lot of people when first starting out down the endless rabbit hole that is watch collecting, loving, appreciating etc. were tempted by or at least entertained the idea of getting a fake luxury watch. I know when I first started down this path I came across a few and was blown away at how unbelievably good some of those super clones looked. The materials and attention to detail were incredibly done and you could get one for around $5-600. So as the title states, I understand the allure. We become enamored by a certain model. We spend so much time looking at different photos from every angle. We read articles about them and watch reviews online and eventually we're completely dug in. For me it wasn't at all about trying to fool anyone, but just the idea of having something SO close to the real thing in my hands to admire. The temptation is real. Otherwise there wouldn't be a market for them obviously. I'll preface this by saying I never fell prey to the temptation and looking back I am so glad I didn't. I'm not the first or thousandth person to say this but it is true that no matter how well it's made and no matter if you're the only one on earth that knows it's fake, it will NEVER bring you the joy you think it will. Things to consider: Wouldn't you feel like a fraud? Is it worth it? Do you want to walk around with the thought in the back of your mind that someone might recognize it and expose you? I think you may grow to resent it more than the old man's beating heart beneath the floorboards. Now the thought doesn't even cross my mind, but I still try to convince others not to do it without shaming them over it because again, I understand the impulse. The three pictured are one's I got with the intent of making a video about this subject. I didn't pay anything for them and they're not even good clones honestly. I thought I would put this in the general discussion in case anyone had their own stories or thoughts concerning the subject. Salud!

I want one because all my brother in laws have real ones. Now granted they all are far more successful than me and literally either the CEO or owners of companies, but I am basically last man standing without a Rolex in her family, I just bought a real Tudor BB58 which is well within my budget and wife approved but she won’t approve a $10-$20 k watch purchase. Would like to just have a super clone of a no date sub or explorer for when we meet up for 4th of July.

@Lonnie Sharp you’re probably right. I have been holding off on microbrands as I want to continue a better collection and I have my eye on the Tudor Ranger in Dune and the BB 41 monochrome. All quality watches in their own right and something to strive for over the next year or so.

How confident are you in your ability to spot a counterfeit watch? I bought 2 fake Rolex watches in 2007 when I was in Hong Kong for a business trip. And I wish I could say that I stopped there, but no – I also have a fake Patek Phillippe, a fake Louis Vuitton, and a fake Breitling.

Is there a good website to buy a super lone from? I have been doing some slight research and heard of a couple but not sure if the ones I’m looking at are the real clean factory or vs factory. I also hear zetaclone mentioned but not sure if they are any good?
My first “luxury watch”
I went in with every intent to purchase a Ranger Dune and ended up buying a Black Bay 58 Burgundy on 5 link. I love the red as I wear clothes that go with this color scheme quite a lot being a Nebraska Husker fan, yeah I get it we are in a slump for over a decade, but will always love them. I’ll have to save up again for the Dune Ranger as I still want it.

Very similar to mine when I was in the NAVY! Love it!
WOTD - Take On Me Tuesday
Wearing my Casio DW-5600JV-7 today. I do love this hand-drawn chunky boy. Also, if your watch of choice doesn’t fit the theme of the day? Pick up a pipe wrench and make your own rules!

I love this, one of my favorite movies is sin city and this has that comic book but reality vibe to it.
