Getting off the disposables: Update
Since @Antonio Cent suggested a 3-piece safety razor instead of a butterfly to start with because it holds the blade more securely, I decided on a King C. Gillette model. It was available locally so I could get started right away, it was inexpensive enough that I wouldn't worry if I didn't like the experience, and it came with 5 blades. This may not be the razor I eventually end up with, but it will do for now. I only use it on weekends (and days when I'm off work due to being ill like today) and I'm still refining my technique. I'm only shaving with the grain and have finally learned what that is on different parts of my face. At least I can get through a full shave now without nicking myself, even though it may not be as close as I'd like. 😆 However, I was wise enough to buy a styptic pencil BEFORE I started in with the safety razor, and it certainly came in handy for those first few shaves. My first shave was nick-free, but I was being VERY careful. I grew bolder and more confident over the next few, at the expense of a little bloodletting. Time will tell if I can get as close as I want without reaching for the alum.

@Jeff Wilkinson I find the King C. OK but I feel quality control lets them down a tad ( very good on the whole but too often a dud in the pack). For the same price range here in the UK I opt for Wilkinson Sword, but my preference is Feather.
A bit Anxious
A few months ago I popped into the one mens store in our small community. I do that periodically to grab some Pendleton items if on sale. Their tailored garments are clearly on the low end of the spectrum but this is the second time I have found a miss-sized (Chinese made) coat with a massive mark down. The first time about 5 years ago was a brushed cotton burgundy blazer allegedly a 46R marked down to $60. This time I saw a 40R (really a 42) already marked down to $89 with another discount (forgot the exact amount). I have paid more for pocket squares. So I jumped on this wool (or so it says) gunclub check coat. Getting dressed using a flashlight in my closet at 5:30 AM for a 6:30 meeting I was inspired the other day of combining it with a denim shirt. I had flipped the frayed collar on 30 year old Harold’s denim shirt that sufficed, grabbed my Orvis Duck cloth heavy khakis, Alden Indiana Jones boots, Pendleton socks, Weneger field watch. The Scotch Tape tailoring 😉, on the sleeves made me a few minutes late to the meeting.

Well er um…well…
https://www.realmenrealstyle.com/preppy-revival-fall/ Our fearless community leader Antonio Centeno has created a spreadsheet defining preppy vs Ivy League vs traditional. It is a very interesting read and as a whole I would agree with its premise which is don’t be afraid to wear these proven looks this fall and yet be very cognizant of the “preppy costume” which happens when you over do it. Anyone who has read any of my post knows that not only am I a fan of Ivy League or what I simply term American Classic Timeless Menswear, but I have been wearing this style for 5 decades with a distaste for the opposite view which is the fickle foibles of fashion. There are a few things that I would like to support and emphasize in the article: The one that stands out the most is under “traditional” emphasizing the shoe. This is one I’ve spoken about frequently. I’ve met guys for the first time and been able to tell a whole lot about him based upon his footwear and have done so for multiple decades. In all actuality I would argue this is something that should span across all three categories. I mean until the Preppy handbook came out in 1980 that word “preppy” was virtually unknown except in that book and the movie (book) Love Story and perhaps on a few very select campuses. In the Preppy Handbook the “right” shoe is a funny part of this amusing parody. Nevertheless, it did a very accurate job describing the “traditional” shoe which is also very “Ivy League” and obviously “Preppy” considering it just told you these were the”right” shoes🤪. I also appreciate his discussion surrounding Traditional being a specific cut of garment that is extremely immutable to fashion change. (Although I am bewildered by the comment regarding “a higher button stance” perhaps that is referring to the three button that doesn’t have a 3/2 roll??? Not sure.) Irrespective, I think his breakdown is an interesting delineation. Lastly, I really like his description of “old money” as merely an internet construct (the newest goofball internet explanation would have to also be “grandpa style” 🤣). While if I were putting this together I might have done it a bit differently, yet it is nevertheless very impressive and as usual extremely well presented. You should take a look at the article

I have always considered myself old money, especially now I'm old and still have some money.

Welcome to #funfitfriday which also means it id Daddy/Daughtrer coffee date. Today we sat inside and had the coffee from a mug as Jade had a Dr appointment today. Todays FunFit is another outfit I a,m trying before wearing to Japan in a couple of week. The one mixes a pair of Trousers I have worn With a blazer I am taking and my resurrected Ecco Slip-On Sneaklers that have been a yard shoe for the past 2 years. They were resurrected using the Saphir Omni’Nettoyant Suede, Nubuck and Fabric cleaner. Damn amazing job to get them to look this good. I did it more so for the ease of shoe removal when in Japan.
