Frothy Urine
I am working with an 83 year old male friend on his health issues. (Prostate - high PSA; and blood pressure/heart arrhythmia.). He recently told me that his urine is very frothy. A quick google search stated it could be 'excess protein leakage - proteinuria.' His eGFR in July was 87 - an increase from 70 in 2025. This is a good/positive increase, right?
Due to arrhythmia (found via wearing a heart monitor for 3 days), in July his cardio doc switched him to a different blood thinner (I can't remember what he was on previously) to Dabigatran 110mg (generic for Pradaxa). He didn't like what the potential side effects are - but, he was warned about a possible stroke/heart attack if he didn't take this new med. (He had a previous heart attack in 2020; a heart stent was put in.)
Question: what labs should he get drawn - or a specialized urinalysis? - in reference to frothy urine?
And what labs should be drawn - and how often - to check for blood thinning issues?
I get confused when researching labs to check blood thinning. Is D-Dimer one of them?
Thanks in advance for your consideration of these questions.
