As we continue meditating through the Gospel of Matthew, we see the ministry of Jesus revealing the heart of God toward people who are suffering, broken, needy, and seeking His mercy. Jesus healed people not merely because He had divine authority, but because He was moved with compassion and love toward those who needed God’s touch. Throughout His ministry, Jesus demonstrated divine authority over creation, sickness, demons, and even death. He brought healing, restoration, freedom, and new life to those who came to Him. Today, we come to another beautiful passage in which two blind men cried out to Jesus, asking Him to open their eyes. As Jesus was leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him. Two blind men were sitting beside the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” The crowd tried to silence them, but they cried out even louder. Jesus stopped, called them, and asked, “What do you want Me to do for you?” They answered, “Lord, we want our eyes to be opened.” — Matthew 20:29–33 Jesus was on His final journey toward Jerusalem, where He would accomplish God’s redemptive plan through His suffering, crucifixion, and resurrection. Yet even while moving toward the cross, Jesus stopped for two people who desperately needed His mercy. Notice what these men called Him: “Son of David.” This was a messianic title pointing to the promised King who would come from David’s line. God had promised David, “I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever” (2 Samuel 7:13). These blind men recognized something about Jesus that many people failed to recognize. They believed that He was the promised Messiah and that He had authority to help them. When the crowd told them to be quiet, they cried out even more. Their physical blindness did not prevent them from seeing, by faith, who Jesus was. They knew their need, and they knew where to take it.

I didn't miss the high. I missed the quiet inside my head for a few hours. I wasn't chasing a feeling. I was running from one. Quiet mornings. A clear head. Nobody to apologize to.
