We live in a world that makes us feel guilty when we are not doing something. There is always another message to answer, another problem to solve, another person who needs something.
Even when our bodies stop, our thoughts often don’t. We sit down, but mentally we’re still working through tomorrow, replaying yesterday and trying to solve next Thursday. 😁
Yet God never designed us to be permanently “on.”
Jesus Himself withdrew from the crowds. He made space for quiet. Rest wasn’t something He earned after everything was finished. It was part of the rhythm.
Perhaps that is something some of us need to hear today: being still doesn’t mean you’re doing nothing.
Sometimes quiet creates the space in which we finally hear what all the noise has been drowning out.
You don’t have to solve your whole life today. You don’t even have to have all the answers.
Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is become quiet enough to hear God again.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
Maybe today, instead of asking, “What else must I do?”, ask: “God, what do I need to become quiet enough to hear?”
