Okay y’all, I’m learning a lesson about comfort today. Just two weeks ago, I shared that one of my wins was having multiple interviews going at the same time. Well, today I received an offer for my first-choice opportunity—and it’s fully remote! And you would think after searching for TWO YEARS I would just be somewhere celebrating. Nope. My mind immediately started going through every possible scenario. Let me read every review. Maybe I should talk to more people who work there. What if I make the wrong decision? What if I leave and regret it? Do I really want to leave what I know for something I don’t? And then I had to remind myself: I can research, ask questions, talk to people, and gather all the information I possibly can, but I still won’t know exactly what the experience will be until I get there. I’ve been in my current role for 3½ years. I know the people. I know the work. I know the systems. It’s comfortable. And now I’m looking at the unknown, and if I’m being transparent, that’s scary for me. I can be very risk-averse. But I’ve also been thinking about this: What if I’m not making a mistake? What if it all works out? Sometimes we can get so focused on everything that could go wrong that we don’t leave room for everything that could go right. I’m still going to do my due diligence. But I’m also reminding myself that at some point, I have to be willing to step outside of what’s comfortable if I want to experience something different. Apparently, getting what you prayed and searched for can be just as scary as waiting for it.
