knowing what to do , or knowing what others say can help, and doing, are completely different things. I wonder what could really help? What could work for you? I have found it interesting and helpful, at least a little, to follow one suggestion that says to notice different parts in us. and acknowledge that we have conflict inside us, becasue there are different needs, and different ideas about how to meet those needs. Part of me holds on to hope, and thinks, 'if only I can understand more, or do more, or be consistent etc, I'll get better.' Another part of me says 'It's no use. Why bother? Life is too hard. I just have to put up with it. And maybe one day there can be a holiday, or a bit of a break. But then how can I get there, if I can't be productive enough?' and so on it goes. I'm not sure what kinds of thoughts are in your head. I notice thoughts like this: 'I need to get sleep, I'm foolish if I don't get enough sleep, it only makes things harder when I don't,' and then other thoughts say 'But I can't allow myself the luxury of sleep.' Or 'I don't want to have this day end with important things not done.' Or 'I just want some unpressured time to myself. I won't take too long...' and then I take too long. A friend gave me some feedback that I sometimes remember and think about: that I seem to be much harder, and even quite unkind to myself. I hold myself to standards I don't think of holding anyone else to. But do I need to? Maybe I can be a bit kinder, a bit nicer to myself. I think this might relate to inner child work or curiosity that Jim has mentioned as something that can be helpful. Sorry this might sound like therapy talk, and I really don't like therapy, if its just pompous opinions about how we should think and be and just get over things, etc. I like it when we have space to be ourselves, with all our frustrations and things that aren't working for us... and in that space... what could happen if we could allow some kindness to ourselves? Waiting for others hasn't worked for me. Or I've usually just dismissed what others say, because it doesn't feel like it really can work for me. 'What we say to ourselves, often has the most power' - is a saying I have come across, which I think has truth to it. I have started to catch myself saying harsh things to myself, and without trying to repel those thoughts directly I think it's helping me to let myself give myself a different perspective, such as 'something is better than nothing' and 'fresh start' and 'small wins are still wins.' I'm still working on it. This is an essay, sorry if its been too much. but i hope something in here might possibly be helpful. If not at least please hear that I get this frustration. It isn't easy. I hope one day it can be easier for us all.
