Vacation Without Going Off Plan — Macros Without Measure
Vacation Without Going Off Plan > Macros Without Measure What’s up team 👊 We’re bringing back a live group Zoom next week. It’s been a minute since we’ve done one of these, so I wanted to make the first one back something that is extremely relevant right now: How to navigate vacation, travel, restaurants, summer weekends, and chaotic schedules without completely going off plan. Because let’s be real… Most people don’t struggle when life is perfectly structured. They struggle when they’re out of their routine. Vacation. Family trips. Weddings. Restaurants. Alcohol. Snacks. No food scale. No normal grocery setup. No perfect schedule. And that’s exactly why we’re covering this. 📅 When: Next Wednesday ⏰ Time: 6 PM PST 📍 Where: Zoom link will be posted here before the call 🎥 Replay: Posted inside the community after On this call, I’m going to show you how to use Macros Without Measure so you can make confident nutrition decisions without needing to track every gram. We’ll cover: ✈️ How to eat on vacation without spiraling 🍽️ How to use hand portions and visual cues 🥩 How to prioritize protein when eating out 🍹 How to handle alcohol, desserts, and higher-calorie meals 🧠 How to avoid the “screw it, I already messed up” mindset ⚖️ How to come back from a trip without guilt, punishment, or overcorrecting This is not about being perfect on vacation. It’s about learning how to stay in control without being rigid. That’s the difference between only making progress when life is easy… And becoming the person who can keep momentum in real life. If you have a vacation, trip, wedding, busy weekend, or summer event coming up, you’re going to want to be on this one. Question before the call: What throws you off most when you’re out of routine? 🍽️ Restaurants 🍹 Alcohol 🍰 Desserts/snacks ✈️ Travel days 🧠 The “screw it” mindset ⚖️ Getting back on track after Drop yours below, and I’ll make sure we spend extra time on the biggest ones live.
🤹🏼‍♂️FORCE VS. POWER: A valuable lesson in burnout
There was a season where I thought progress came from pressure. If I wasn’t pushing harder, I assumed I was falling behind. So I added more. Every hour of my day was accounted for. But underneath, I was running on fumes. Eventually, I hit the point where I was doing everything right and still felt stuck. Physically drained. Mentally fogged. Emotionally disconnected. That’s when I realized: I wasn’t building momentum. I was gripping. I wasn’t operating from power. I was forcing it. STAGE 1: FORCE. THE ABUNDANT ENERGY OF CONTROL. Force comes from fear. Fear of slowing down, fear of not being enough, fear that stillness means failure. It’s built on willpower and fueled by anxiety. You can muscle your way to results for a while, but eventually, the system breaks under the weight of control. 📝Journal Prompts: → Where in your life are you trying to force progress instead of allowing it? → What’s one area where more control has actually created more chaos? → If you stopped gripping so tightly, what would you risk losing, and what might you gain? STAGE 2: POWER. THE ABUNDANT ENERGY OF ALIGNMENT Power isn’t about effort, it’s about direction. It’s what happens when your habits, relationships, and environment are designed for the outcome you want. It’s quiet confidence, the kind that doesn’t need to prove, it just performs. 🧠 Journal Prompts: → What areas of your life feel aligned right now, where things “click” effortlessly? → How does your environment (physical, digital, social) influence your ability to stay in alignment? → What would your days look like if power, not pressure, was your default? 🧩 STAGE 3: AVOIDANCE — THE DISGUISE OF DISCIPLINE Here’s the truth: sometimes “discipline” is avoidance in disguise. For me, that meant ignoring the parts of my process that actually needed attention — nutrition, recovery, stress..... and pouring all my effort into training, because it was the part that felt safe and familiar. I told myself I was being consistent. But really, I was avoiding the work that would require change.
New here and focused on growth
Good morning everyone! My name is Garrett Calloway, and I was born and raised in Southwest Florida. I’m excited to connect, grow, and work alongside like-minded people in this community. I’ve been on a weight loss journey for about four months now, and I’m focused on building sustainable habits, learning the process, and doing things the right way so the results last. I’m looking forward to continuing that progress and learning from all of you along the way!
😴 PEAK PERFORMANCE STARTS WITH RECOVERY, NOT GRIND
Everyone talks about training harder. But the best athletes in the world know the real secret: they recover harder. In Chapter 1 of a really good book I read called Peak by Marc Bubbs breaks down how world-class performers don’t just rely on genetics or motivation — they master the basics of recovery that most people skip. ⚙️ THE SCIENCE OF REPAIR Every workout creates stress — tiny tears in your muscles, spikes in cortisol, and temporary fatigue. Recovery is where you actually get better. That’s when your body adapts, rebuilds stronger tissue, and upgrades your performance system. Without recovery, training is just wear and tear. 💡 Think of training as writing a check. Recovery is cashing it. 🌙 THE BIGGEST EDGE YOU’RE IGNORING: SLEEP Bubbs highlights that elite athletes protect their sleep like it’s part of their training plan.Why? Because every system that drives performance — hormones, muscle repair, energy metabolism, immune function, and memory — is controlled during deep sleep. When sleep quality drops: - Growth hormone release plummets - Insulin sensitivity decreases - Inflammation rises - Reaction time and decision-making crash When sleep quality improves: - Muscles rebuild faster - Hunger hormones stabilize - Mood and motivation rise - Learning and movement patterns lock in 🧠 THE CIRCADIAN CLOCK RULES EVERYTHING Your body runs on rhythm. Core temperature, hormones, digestion, and even mental sharpness fluctuate across a 24-hour cycle. 👉 When you train, eat, and sleep in sync with that rhythm, you get more adaptation for less effort.👉 When you fight it (late-night screens, caffeine at 5 p.m., skipping breakfast), you confuse your biology and limit your progress. Small alignment habits that matter: - Wake up and get sunlight within 30 minutes - Keep a consistent sleep + wake time (even on weekends) - Limit blue light exposure 1 hour before bed - Eat the majority of calories earlier in the day - 🔑 THE BIG TAKEAWAY High performers don’t just push harder. They build consistency, master sleep, and align with their circadian rhythm so the work they do actually pays off.
Footwork = Framework
From the Ground Up 👣 We talk a lot about what fuels us....protein, habits, motivation, mindset… But what about what supports us? Literally. Your feet are the only part of your body that’s always in contact with the ground when you’re moving. They absorb the shock, carry the weight, and act as your foundation with every step, every rep, every mile. But most people never stop to ask themselves: Are my shoes helping or hurting me? Are they supporting my goals or silently sabotaging them? Are they aligned with how I actually move, train, and walk? I didn’t always get this right. I used to wear the same pair of sneakers for everything… Running. Lifting. Errands. Shit, even Hiking. Until eventually my knees were aching during squats, my feet were wrecked after long walks, and blisters were just the norm I accepted as part of the process. Now? 👟 For lifting: I wear Converse. Flat sole, wide fit and super stable. Perfect for heavy compound lifts. I like that they’re functional and still versatile for everyday use. 👟 For walking/running: I rock ON Clouds. Lightweight, breathable, and they make getting steps in feel effortless. The support is unreal, especially on long days. After I made the switch, I noticed the difference instantly: Better posture. Stronger lifts. Less joint pain. More motivation to move. Moral of the story: What’s under you matters more than you think. What’s your go to pair of shoes for walking or training? 👇 Drop your favorites below and help someone else upgrade their foundation. Here are some popular options worth exploring 🚨Don’t just buy blind, test them out first. The better you understand your feet, the better your choice will be and the less refunds you will have to make. 👟 All Day Comfort / Everyday Walking Best for: Long walks, errands, casual wear Why: Cushioning, support, and ease for all-day movement - ON Cloud (Cloud 5 or Cloud X) – Lightweight, breathable, and versatile - HOKA Clifton / Bondi – Ultra-cushioned and ideal for joint support - Brooks Ghost / Brooks Addiction – Excellent arch support and shock absorption - Asics Gel Nimbus / Cumulus – Springy with reliable durability - New Balance 990s / 880s – Stable and great for wider feet
