Day 2 finished WIN 💪
The masks I chose from the examples given in the prompt were are perfectionist, overachiever, people pleaser, and invisible one. Caretaker and controller also fit.
I’m feeling convicted. I realize how all of those were adapted instinctively when I was young. It wasn’t something I had to ability to process and make an active decision about. Through this process I’m realizing how ineffective they are. How I’m working so much harder than I need to be working in the whole time not even being who I really am! Initially, I think being who I am will be a lot harder, but ultimately, I can see how it will require a whole lot less energy!
The person I was as a child before the world intervened, was carefree, little girl who got to hang out and be relaxed and adored by her retired grandfather. Our days were slow, unhurried, and unburdened together. Then he died suddenly in my presence at 4 1/2 years old.
Within a year, that kindergarten teacher wrote on my report card that I talked too much. I’m certain she had let me know that in person before my mother read it on that report card. I shared more about that in a previous post.
My world that had gotten incredibly unsafe just months before, suddenly got even less safe. My heart breaks for that little me. The adults around me had their world shattered, too, and I’m quite sure where ill-equipped to cope, let alone to help me cope.
I have done steps1 and 2 of my micro tasks, which were to get out a piece paper and pen, and write a name at the top.
I’m not going to lie, I continued tohave resistance at first. Remarkably, even this tiny bit still.felt like a monumental task. But then I told myself it really wasn’t asking too much and I could do this. I realized I had explicit instructions to start and stop with these two steps.Suddenly, a weight lifted and.I felt empowered to get out a piece of pape and a pen, and write a name at the top!
Thank you, , what remarkable tools that provide insight, clarity, and practical steps to get moving forward! I’m ever so grateful.
